A woman was killed in a fatal wrong-way crash on Alligator Alley earlier this week. The Collier County crash happened in the afternoon on Wednesday, August 11. It was reported to the authorities at around 2:45 p.m.
According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash on Alligator Alley involved several vehicles. The crash was initiated by a sedan which was traveling along the westbound lanes of I-75 at the time. As the sedan approached the mile marker 97, its driver lost control due to high speed.
The sedan then crossed the median and crashed into an SUV at a high rate of speed. The SUV was towing a boat at the time and traveling along the eastbound lanes of the road. The debris from the collision between the sedan and the SUV also landed on a third vehicle which suffered damage in the incident.
After the initial collision, the sedan came to rest on the inside guardrail of the westbound lanes of the road. The driver of the sedan was identified as Amari Jones, 20, of Oakland Park. Jones suffered serious injuries in the accident and was transported to a local hospital.
The SUV which was hit by the sedan had a driver and a passenger traveling in it at the time of the crash. The driver suffered serious injuries but the passenger was fatally injured in the crash. She was identified as Shelli Lynn, of Cape Coral. Lynn was pronounced deceased on the scene of the accident.
Following treatment at the hospital, Jones was taken into custody for causing the crash. He has been charged with possession of burglary tools, driving without a license involving serious injury, and fleeing and eluding.
