Pedestrian Hit and Killed by a Van in Osceola County

A woman was hit and killed by a van in Osceola County as she stepped into the path of the vehicle. The fatal collision occurred on Tuesday, December 30. It took place on the U.S. 192 in the early morning and was reported to the authorities at around 6:30 a.m.

According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal incident came about as the deceased victim was trying to cross the roadway. The victim attempted to cross the road just west of Simpson Road.

FHP identified the victim only as a Kissimmee woman aged 54. As the woman tried to cross the road, she came into the path of the van which collided with her at a fairly high rate of speed. The sheer impact of the collision inflicted severe injuries on the woman. She succumbed to these injuries and once the first responders reached the scene of the crash, she was pronounced dead on the scene.

FHP didn’t confirm whether the driver of the van sustained any injuries. The driver was identified by the troopers as a woman aged 27, also from Kissimmee.

Following the fatal accident, the westbound lanes of the U.S. 192 were shut down for traffic. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reported that the westbound lanes were blocked at U.S. 192 and Simpson Road. This was likely done so that the authorities could conduct on-site investigations and cleanup. The lanes remained closed for several hours before they were reopened to traffic.

FHP didn’t release the names of the driver or the pedestrian who was killed by a van in Osceola County The name of the pedestrian is likely to be released once the next-of-kin have been notified, in line with the official policy. The crash remains under investigation. It remains to be seen if any charges will be brought against the driver of the van.
