According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred due to a sedan which was traveling eastbound along SR 20 at the time. The driver of the sedan failed to maintain the lane and the vehicle veered across the center line and into the westbound lanes of the road.
This brought the sedan into the path of the westbound traffic. A westbound pickup truck collided with the sedan. After this initial collision, the sedan veered to a side but still remained in the westbound lanes of the road. A second vehicle traveling right behind the pickup truck failed to avoid a collision and crashed into the sedan.
The pickup truck and the sedan sustained significant vehicular damage in the accident. The driver of the sedan sustained minor injuries. Once the first responders and paramedics reached the scene of the crash, the sedan driver was transported to an area hospital.
The pickup truck driver was more seriously injured and taken to a different area hospital for emergency treatment. A third person also suffered non-serious injuries, identified as a passenger in the third vehicle.
FHP didn’t reveal the identification details of any of the persons involved in the three-vehicle crash on SR 20. The agency continues to investigate the crash for now. Common contributing factors such as alcohol and speeding have not yet been ruled out by the authorities. It remains to be seen if any formal charges will be brought against the sedan driver.
