A woman was killed in a SR-56 car collision with dump truck. The fatal accident happened on the morning of Thursday, January 28. Authorities are yet to name the deceased victim pending notification to the next-of-kin. She has only been identified as a 27-year-old female from Zephyrhills.
According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, the tragic crash took place close to the Oakwood Preserve Drive on State Road 56. It happened early in the morning and was reported to the authorities at around 7 a.m.
The victim who lost her life in the incident was traveling westbound on SR-56. As she was driving just east of the Oakwood Preserve Drive, she appears to have lost control of the vehicle. Her car then veered out of her control and drove into the center median. The vehicle then continued to veer in an easterly direction which brought it into the path of the eastbound traffic.
It was then that the car collided with a dump truck which was heading eastbound along the highway at the time. The sheer impact of the collision caused serious damage to the car. The woman who was driving the vehicle suffered critical injuries.
She was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Once the first responders and paramedics reached the scene of the crash, attempts to revive the woman failed. She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The dump truck veered out of control and went into a ditch as a result of the collision. The driver of the dump truck also sustained some injuries, although his injuries are reported as minor. He was identified as a 47-year-old male from Tampa. FHP continues to investigate the incident. The precise cause of the SR-56 car collision with dump truck remains unknown for now.
