A woman lost her life in a fatal Fort Pierce crash on I-95 in the afternoon on Tuesday, December 29. The incident was reported to the authorities just after 3 p.m.
According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, this was a single-vehicle crash which involved only the vehicle that was being driven by the deceased victim. This vehicle was identified as a sport utility vehicle.
The vehicle was traveling on Interstate 95 just north of Orange Avenue. It was headed southbound on the Interstate. The vehicle had three occupants in it at the time. These included the deceased victim who was a passenger, a second passenger, and the driver. The deceased was later identified by FHP only as a woman from Lake Worth Beach aged 53.
The vehicle was traveling along the center lane. However, just as the vehicle reached 134 Mile Post, the driver of the vehicle lost control for some reason. It is unclear exactly what caused the driver to lose control. The vehicle then veered to one side, sweeping across the southbound lanes and onto the inside shoulder of the road. It then collided with a tree at a fairly high speed and overturned before coming to a stop.
The 53-year-old passenger sustained critical injuries in the crash. She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead once the first responders and paramedics reached the scene of the accident.
The other occupants of the vehicle, including the driver and the second passenger, sustained only minor injuries. They were transported to the Lawnwood Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Following the Fort Pierce crash on I-95, FHP shut down the two left lanes of the road to conduct on-site investigations and cleanup. The lanes were reopened a few hours later. The crash remains under investigation.
