A woman was killed in a tractor-trailer accident that took place on Florida’s Turnpike on December 13. Florida Highway Patrol didn’t release the identification details of the deceased citing departmental policy.
According to the details shared by FHP on Monday, the incident occurred early on the morning of Sunday, December 13. It was reported to the authorities at around 5:30 a.m. The crash involved a tractor-trailer and a vehicle. It happened on the Florida’s Turnpike at only some distance from the exit for Boynton Beach Boulevard.
The passenger vehicle involved in the collision was parked in the outside lane of the southbound lanes of the Turnpike at mile marker 86. The vehicle had a single occupant in it, its driver. FHP identified the driver only as a woman.
The tractor-trailer, also traveling in the southbound lanes, crashed into the parked vehicle. It also partly ran over the vehicle. The sheer impact of the collision caused both vehicles to be pushed into the guardrail before coming to a stop. The driver of the passenger vehicle sustained critical injuries in the crash. The vehicle itself sustained heavy damage.
Once the first responders and paramedics reached the scene of the accident, the woman was pronounced deceased. At this point, it is not known precisely what the woman was doing at the location and why was her vehicle parked. Florida Highway Patrol and other local agencies continue to investigate the cause of the accident in order to better understand how it occurred.
FHP has confirmed that the deceased was wearing a seatbelt at the time. So was the driver of the tractor-trailer who sustained only minor injuries in the incident. Authorities identified him only as a Miami man, aged 48. Further investigations may shed more light on how or why the unfortunate trailer-tractor accident took place.
