ATV Crash in Manatee County Kills Teen, Injures Another

An ATV crash in Manatee County resulted in the death of a teenager on November 28. Another teen was seriously injured in the incident.

According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal incident took place on the evening of Saturday, November 28. It was reported to the authorities just after 5:30 p.m.

The two teenagers involved in the incident were traveling on an all-terrain vehicle. The duo was riding the vehicle on private property in the northeast section of the county. The precise location of the incident was close to the unincorporated community Duette, just off the Logue Road.

A 16-year-old female teen was driving the ATV at the time. A second female teen, aged 17, was in the passenger seat of the vehicle. As the vehicle was negotiating a curve, the ATV lost its balance and overturned at a fairly high speed. Both teens were ejected from the vehicle during the incident.

The older teen sustained critical injuries in the incident. By the time the first responders and paramedics reached the scene of the crash, she had succumbed to her injuries. She was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.

The younger teen sustained serious injuries. She was rushed to a local hospital where she received treatment. The precise nature and extent of her injuries is not known at this time.

FHP has not yet revealed the identities of the teens involved in the accident. However, FHP has confirmed that the 17-year-old deceased was from Frostproof whereas the 16-year-old was from Bowling Green, Florida.

Preliminary investigations by FHP show that neither of the teens was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to better understand the precise cause that led to the ATV crash in Manatee County.
