A woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in Aventura in connection with a hit-and-run accident that took place earlier this week. The incident occurred in the afternoon on Thursday, June 10.
According to the details shared by the North Miami Beach police, the hit-and-run happened near Northeast 172nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard. A woman had apparently been involved in a hit-and-run accident. The crash itself involved at least two other vehicles.
The drivers of one of the other vehicles had flagged a police officer. As the officer stopped on the scene of the hit-and-run, the woman involved in the incident tried to drive away. The officer attempted to stop the woman but the woman continued driving and ran over the officer leading to the attempted murder in Aventura.
After running over the officer, the woman once against attempted to drive away. This time, K-9 dogs were deployed to stop the woman while shots were also fired. It isn’t clear if the woman was hit but she did suffer some injuries as attempts were made by the law enforcement to stop her from fleeing.
Once the suspect had been apprehended, she was transported to the Aventura Hospital and Medical Center for treatment. As per latest reports, she is in stable condition.
The officer who had been run over in the incident suffered serious injuries. He has been identified by the authorities as a 17-year veteran of the department. The officer was also transported to the Aventura Hospital. Although he remained in Intensive Care Unit, he is reportedly out of danger.
Authorities have decided to charge the suspect with attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer. Other charges related to the original hit-and-run crash may also be filed against the suspect.
