A tragic multi-vehicle crash on I-95 resulted in the loss of four lives. The accident consisted of several collisions between multiple vehicles along the southbound lanes of the I-95 in Port St. Lucie. It occurred early on the morning of Sunday, March 14, and was reported to the authorities at around 4:30 a.m.
According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened when a van stopped in the southbound lanes of the I-95. The van had three occupants in it at the time. It isn’t known why the van stopped.
A pickup truck, also traveling along the southbound lanes, collided with the right side of the van. The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to spin and come to a stop heading north. A tractor trailer then crashed the front end of the van and pushed it towards the shoulder. The big rig also collided with the pickup truck and dragged it several hundred feet.
The van had three occupants in it at the time. These were identified as a woman aged 24 from Georgia who was driving the van, a California man aged 27, and a 33-year-old woman from Ormond Beach. All three suffered critical injuries in the multiple collisions and died on the scene of the crash.
The pickup truck had its driver as the sole occupant when the accident occurred. He also suffered critical injuries in the crash and died. He was identified as a man aged 43 from Port St. Lucie. The driver of the tractor trailer remained safe and had no injuries to report. He was identified as a Georgia man aged 65.
Authorities shut down the southbound lanes for several hours following the multi-vehicle crash on I-95. Investigations into the accident are still ongoing.
