One person lost their life in a single-vehicle crash in Oakland Park on Wednesday, January 27. The accident happened late at night and was reported to the authorities around midnight.
According to the details shared by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the crash only involved only one vehicle which was identified as a white Infinite. The vehicle had sustained such extensive damage in the wake of the crash that it was completely mangled and had to be towed away from the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the vehicle was headed westbound on Oakland Park Boulevard when it ran into the accident. The precise location of the crash was close to 1097 E. on the Boulevard, just outside a Goodwill store.
As the driver of the Infinite was headed west on the roadway, he apparently lost control of the vehicle. The car then veered away from the roadway. It then collided with a bus bench, then crashed into a tree and a pole before finally coming to rest. The sheer impact of these collisions seriously damaged the vehicle.
Police recovered surveillance videos from nearby CCTV cameras to get a clearer picture of precisely how the crash occurred. The videos reveal that after the collision, the Infinite caught fire and was rapidly engulfed in flames.
Witnesses near the scene of the crash in Oakland Park rushed to the vehicle to help the driver out. It isn’t clear whether or not they were able to rescue the driver in time. However, once the first responders and paramedics reached the scene of the crash, the driver had died. He was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident. The focus of the investigations is to determine precisely what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The deceased driver has not been identified so far.
