A woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist. Authorities suspect that she had been driving under the influence when the incident occurred. The woman arrested for DUI has been identified as Ashlee Jordan Grisanti, 24, of New Port Richey.
According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident took place on the night of Friday, November 27. It was reported to the authorities just after 9:30 p.m.
Grisanti was traveling northbound on the U.S. 19 at the time. Her vehicle was identified as a sedan. As she reached the intersection of Viva Via Drive along the U.S. 19, she moved from the left turn lane in which she had been traveling. This brought her directly into the path of a motorcycle.
The motorcycle crashed into Grisanti’s vehicle. The motorcyclist was ejected from his vehicle and sustained critical injuries in the collision even though he was wearing a helmet at the time. When the first responders reached the scene of the crash, the motorcyclist was rushed to a local hospital. However, he died from his injuries.
Grisanti had another two passengers with her in the sedan at the time of the accident. All three occupants sustained only minor injuries.
FHP has not released the name of the motorcyclist who lost his life in the crash. He has only been identified as a Spring Hall male aged 38. It is likely that the authorities will release the name after notification to the next-of-kin.
Following the crash, FHP has arrested Grisanti over drunken driving charges. Troopers have not revealed what evidence led them to suspect that she was driving under influence at the time the incident occurred. The formal charges that have been bought against Grisanti include one count of DUI manslaughter.
