Miami Springs Hit-and-Run Suspect Extradited to Florida

by | Nov 25, 2020 | Firm News

A man who was involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Miami Springs has now been extradited to Florida. He had previously fled the United States following the hit-and-run crash. Authorities identified the Miami Springs hit-and-run suspect as Eddy Enrique Nunez, 54.

According to the details shared by the State Attorney on Friday, November 20, Nunez was apprehended as he was traveling from Panama to Cuba. He was then brought to South Florida where he is wanted for causing the fatal crash.

The accident involving Nunez took place back in January, 2020. Nunez was first involved in a three-vehicle crash. After being in this incident, he fled the scene of the crash before running into a second accident only some distance from the first crash. He then tried to flee from the second accident as well. It was then that his vehicle ran over a pedestrian in the process.

The pedestrian was identified as Tracy Berry aged 43. As Nunez attempted to flee the second accident scene, he dragged Berry under his vehicle for several blocks. Berry sustained critical injuries and died. She had arrived in town for a cruise and originally hailed from Ohio.

Following the incident, Nunez fled the United States and went to Panama. However, the investigators were later able to put together the whole incident with the help of video footage from surveillance cameras nearby. The footage helped the investigators identify Nunez as the driver responsible for causing the crash.

Based on these investigations, efforts were launched to have Nunez apprehended and extradited. The efforts finally paid off when Nunez was arrested as he was trying to go to Cuba from Panama. Following this arrest, he was brought to Miami-Dade and booked into the jail. He currently faces a vehicular homicide charge. His bond has been set at $15,000.
