A child lost her life in a tragic two-vehicle crash on I-10 in Santa Rosa County. According to the troopers, the crash was reported to the authorities just after 11:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, November 1.
The accident report regarding the crash reveals that the crash involved a collision between a Sedan and a pickup truck. The Sedan was traveling westbound on State Road 8 when its driver attempted to merge into the left lane. However, this brought the Sedan into a collision with the pickup truck already traveling in the left lane.
The Sedan collided with the right side of the pickup truck at a fairly high speed. The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to overturn before coming to rest in the center median. Two occupants were traveling in the Sedan at the time. These included an 18-year-old female driver and a passenger. The Sedan driver sustained only minor injuries while her passenger remained relatively safe in the incident.
The pickup truck had five occupants in it at the time. These included two adults and three children. The adults were identified as a 26-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman. The man suffered serious injuries in the incident while the woman was reported to be in a critical state.
The three children traveling in the pickup included an 8-year-old boy, and two 12-year-old girls. The boy suffered serious injuries. One of the girls died in the crash while the other sustained minor injuries. The two adults and the young boy were transported to a local hospital by the paramedics.
Following the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol shut down the westbound lanes of State Road 8 as on-site cleanup and investigations were conducted. It remains to be seen if any formal charges will be brought against the Sedan driver.
